only in the bay could you have had this sort of pan-minroity unity. we don’t have it as much anymore, but we r still definitely more integrated than the rest of america.

black history month.
yellow peril, brown berets, and black panthers protesting outside a courthouse where huey p. newton was being tried. a beautiful example of different cultures coming together for change.

Droop-E - “Rossi Wine (Free My Mind)” feat. Kendrick Lamar

So, it’d be better if Droop-E’s verse wasn’t so literal and explanatory with the track’s imagery, but the slowed piano run suits his cadence well, and the whole thing works on an aesthetic level.

I also like how this is kind of an anti-ode-to-syrup record.

Droop-E:  Don’t worry bout what’s in my cup / sippin’ on that purple stuff and I ain’t talkin’ syrup bruh

Kendrick:  In the middle of the war zone I be on / sippin on a big bottle of that burgundy motherfuck your styrofoam

And they manage to work in that screwed sample of 40 Water (I think?) to further the point.

More Droop-E and Kendrick, please.

Hungry & Humble from the eldest Stevens progeny coming at some point.

Anyone know the story behind this video? Was this at a video shoot & they were just fuckin around on the break or something? Or was Pac just posted in the neighborhood? And what year was this? This is post-fame I’m assuming.

If this is post-fame-Pac-kickin-it, that’s a scene you wouldn’t find too many super star rappers back then/now. I couldn’t imagine Ross posted in the middle of Little Haiti like that with no body guards n shit.

➜ AN ARCHIVE OF VINTAGE BAY AREA MEMORIES
This is what BART should’ve been. This is an updated image based on the original 1956 BART layout plan.
Do you realize how different the Bay would’ve been if this had happened? If we spent the past 30-40 years interconnected between our neighborhoods, we’d have experienced a far more New York-ish unity. I’d also argue that if we had a fully integrated public transportation system, the Bay would have become far more populated due to access and convenience. Culture and society is both influenced and dictated by things like civil engineering, architecture, and transportation infrastructure. Honestly, I could write a sociological analysis on this shit, but I won’t…or maybe I will…one day.
What I don’t know about is public policy—how can we, the people, lobby to get something like this going again? I’d like to see a fully integrated metro system in the Bay before I die.
