here’s prince aries’ mix from his shade45 (siriusXM) appearance on monday. i believe he’s the first san francisco dj—maybe even bay area—to play on shade45. he was invited by the legendary dj muggs, of soul assassins, to appear on their radio show to talk about his clean ass whip mixtape.
last year, muggs had davinci on the show…the first san francisco artist on shade45. it’s extremely humbling for me to see two of my artists off swtbrds get on anything soul assassins related, considering i’ve idolized guys like muggs, alchemist, and khalil for so much of my life.
i just realized i never did a dedicated post for the release of prince aries’ clean ass whip mixtape. huge oversight on my part, as this is one of my favorite releases on the label…ever.
aries has put together the perfect sunny day cruising mix. its a solid collection of west coast classics, rare/remixes, and a few new joints as well.

Following the recent release of his Clean Ass Whip mixtape, Prince Aries is excited to release a brand new video from the tape, this one for the mixtape’s title track, “Clean Ass Whip,” starring on the song, and making his production debut along with co-producer Big D, is Aries’ SWTBRDS label mate DaVinci, who’s currently putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming EP and LP, Feast Or Famine, and The MOEna Lisa. The tape is largely a collection of West Coast classics, and while “Clean Ass Whip” serves as one of the mixtape’s new exclusives, you’ll be hard pressed to find a song on the project – or anywhere, for that matter – that fits such a textbook definition for riding music.
All the way down to the first sampled note of the beat, the track begs to be played out of car speakers, windows down, on a nice spring day, and director Marcus Ubungen doesn’t disappoint, featuring DaVinci and SF legend San Quinn, as well as chorus crooner Matt Blaque, alongside a classic Chevy Chevelle and sleek Corvette as they ride through the city showing off some of San Francisco’s finer sights. “It’s one of those good ol’ cruising songs that the West Coast is known for,” remarks Aries. “Basically, just hop in your whip, cruise around, and play this song. excited to be putting out my dude prince aries’ first official mixtape, clean ass whip, on swtbrds. prince aries and the whole d2s clan have been a big influence on me, so i consider this an honor. i still remember watching them on san francisco public access tv as a teenager. i’ve watched them transition to network television, take over the sf night life scene, and now i get to be a part of their personal growth as artists…mainey.
